Hi! My name is Phoenix and I am twelve years old. Last Christmas of 2024 my life completely changed. I started bruising and a weird rash all over my legs. I went to get labs at a my doctors office and they said it would take 5 days to get the labs. The next day they called my mom and said I was in critical condition. We ran to the emergency room and I was admitted for 5 days. In those 5 days I got a bone marrow biopsy, platlets, and red blood cells. After the 5 days I got to go home and stay as outpatient. I have had transfusions twice a week and doctors appointments. While getting platlets, I have had reactions to the platlets and a fun fact about me is I HATE Benadryl. Since then I have to take pre-meds before transfusions. I was diagnosed with Severe Aplastic Anemia. Me and my mom have decided to do a BMT. (bone marrow transplant) I will be blogging the rest of my experience going through a BMT.
Sincerely,
Phoenix
Aplastic anemia occurs when your bone marrow doesn’t make enough red and white blood cells, and platelets. Having fewer red blood cells causes hemoglobin to drop.
Hemoglobin is the part of blood that carries oxygen through your body. Having fewer white blood cells makes you more likely to get an infection. And having fewer platelets makes it hard for the blood to clot. This means you can bleed more easily.
